Example setup (illustration) In most small apartments, the living room is where you spend the evening, and the dog wants to be there too. A Rolling Cart for Dog Supplies: One Small Cart Instead of a Closet

Light wood rolling cart next to a sofa holding leashes, a treat jar, folded towels, a brush and a bin of toys, with a corgi sitting beside it
Example setup (illustration)

If you have no closet to spare and no wall for hooks, a rolling cart is the simplest way to give your dog's things one home. It sits in a gap next to the sofa or the fridge, rolls out when you need it, and rolls back when guests come over.

The short version: one tier per job

  1. Top tier: daily things, like leash, poop bags and a sealed treat jar
  2. Middle tier: care, like brush, towels and wipes
  3. Bottom tier: toys, in a bin the dog can see

Measure the gap first

A cart only helps if it has a parking spot. Look for a gap between the sofa and the wall, next to the fridge, or at the end of a kitchen counter. Measure its width and depth, and remember the cart needs a little extra room to roll in and out.

The Amazon Basics 3-tier cart is 18.4 inches wide, 13.9 inches deep and 31 inches tall. It has three recessed metal bins with mesh bottoms, rubber casters that pivot, lockable wheels and a curved push handle.

Top tier: walk gear and treats

Leash, harness, a roll of bags and a small treat jar go on top, where you can reach them standing up. A sealed jar matters here: an open bag of treats at nose height is an invitation.

The OXO Pet POP 3 qt container holds up to about 2 pounds of treats, seals with one press of the lid button, and comes with a scoop.

Middle tier: towels and care

The brush, a folded towel and paw wipes go in the middle, so they are within reach when you come in from a walk.

The Bone Dry XL towel is 41 x 23.5 inches when open, soft microfiber, and machine washable. Folded, it fits one cart tier.

Bottom tier: toys the dog can see

The bottom tier is at dog height, so use it for things the dog is allowed to take, like toys. Keep treats and anything chewable that is not a toy on the top tier.

Labels, so the cart stays sorted

A cart is open on all sides, which makes it easy for things to drift between tiers. A small label on the front of each tier (WALK, CARE, TOYS) helps things go back to the same place.

The SpaceAid labels are clip-on metal holders, 3.5 x 2.5 inches, with black and white cards and chalk markers, so you can rename a tier later.

Setup checklist

  • The cart has a parking spot that fits with room to roll
  • Daily walk gear is on the top tier
  • Treats are sealed and on top, not at dog height
  • Each tier has one job and a label
  • The wheels are locked when the cart is parked

What we would skip

  • Dog food on the cart: a full bag is heavy for a small cart. Food belongs in its own bin near the bowls.
  • Treats on the bottom tier: that is exactly where the dog's nose is.
  • A cart with no parking spot: it ends up in the walkway and gets moved around all day.

FAQ

Where should the cart live?
In a gap next to the sofa, the fridge or the end of a counter, close to where you leave for walks.

Will my dog get into it?
Some dogs will investigate the bottom tier, which is why it holds toys and nothing else. Keep treats sealed and on top.

Can two dogs share one cart?
Yes. Give each dog a small bin on the middle tier for their own brush or medicine, and share the top tier.

Find the gap, measure it, and give each tier one job. That is most of the work.
